VADODARA: Chief Minister Narendra Modi has blamed the Congress-ruled states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh for the power crisis in the state. He was also noncommittal on the issue of requesting the Centre to allocate adequate quantity of gas for gas-based power stations in the state, in order to tide over the crisis.
Talking to TNN here, Modi said that because of the negative attitude of Congress-ruled Maharastra and MP, Gujarat is not in a position to get power from the 1,450 mw hydro-based power station set up at the Sardar Sarovar dam site at Kevadia, about 120 km from here.

He said that the state could start getting hydro-based power from this project after its height is raised to 110 metres from the present height of 95 metres.
Modi said that Congress leaders in the state have been asking their counterparts in Maharashtra and MP to adopt a stance of non-cooperation, with the BJP-ruled government here, on this issue.
He added that the state government was ready to complete the work of raising the height of the dam upto 110 metres, within a time frame of 145 days, but only if both these states co-operated.
